Labor Day Parade Road Closures

Those planning to travel near the center of town Monday morning should plan ahead. The 2026 Newtown Labor Day Parade will step off at 10 am; local road closures will go into effect along the parade route as early as 8 am, however.

The parade steps off from Main Street at its intersection with Currituck Road. The route follows Main Street to Glover Avenue, then the northern section of Queen Street. The route will be fully closed during the presentation of the parade.

Nearby roads — including sections of Currituck and Mt Pleasant roads, Academy and Johnny Cake lanes, and Martin Street — will have limited access after 8 am, once parade participants begin lining up.

Roads could remain partially or fully closed until as late as 3 pm, according to signs posted along the route.

Signs along and near the Labor Day Parade route have warned travelers of road closures coming on Monday, September 7. Many businesses will also have hours changed due to the federal holiday. —Bee Photo, Hicks
