No To MAGA; Yes To Rob Blanchard
To The Editor:
Rob Blanchard will make an excellent state senator for Newtown. He has a commendable history of public service. He has worked closely with Governor Lamont and Comptroller Sean Scanlon. He knows the players and the issues. He can jump into the arena swinging.
More importantly to me, given this disturbing moment in history in which we find ourselves, he is a Democrat. I am no big fan of the Democratic party. I was unaffiliated for years. But I am fiercely against what the Republican party is doing, or is allowing to be done, to our country, our Constitution, our future.
MAGA is the elephant in the room these days in local elections. We need to acknowledge its presence and not tiptoe around it, averting our eyes. MAGA and its adherents are trampling on our constitutional rights at the federal level, ripping apart critical public services, turning our republic into a police state, replacing power of the people with adulation of the few.
Any Republican politician who does not openly oppose the blatant corruption and the disregard of law that is happening at the federal level is part of the problem. That makes Amybeth LaRoche part of the problem. She has the support of Senator Rob Sampson who is strongly affiliated with MAGA. Sampson’s endorsement of LaRoche pushed her into prominence. We know what that means: she owes him. I don’t want her to represent me or my town in the state Senate.
Vote for Rob Blanchard to be our representative for the 28th district to the state Senate. Let’s keep the taint of MAGA as far away from our local politics as possible.
