Do We Need Another Eight Homes?
Do We Need Another Eight Homes?
To the Editor:
Once again the serenity and character of our town is being threatened by development in the form of an eight-lot subdivision directly across the street from one of our most valuable resources, McLaughlin Vineyard.
Many of our residents and visitors from out of town have enjoyed the beauty of the vineyard and the adjoining hiking trails with its abundant wildlife and rural character. A subdivision of this or any size would seriously disturb the existing ecosystem and the country feeling experienced as one drives or walks to this amazing piece of land.
More seriously, the overdevelopment, overcrowding and dangerous traffic generated by yet another subdivision in our âsmallâ town continues to threaten the very factors that caused most of us to choose Newtown for our homes.
In conversation with my friends and neighbors, I hear a great deal of frustration and anger at this rampant development that has been ruining some of our most beautiful and quiet roads. This can only continue unless we make our voices heard by a letter to the zoning commission at 31 Peckâs Lane, Newtown 06470 and attendance at the zoning meeting on September 18 at 7:30 at that same address.
Please donât let this disturbing trend continue unchecked. There is no shortage of houses on the market in our town. Do we need eight more?
