Ben’s Lighthouse is planning an Ice Cream Social, to be held at NYA Sports & Fitness Center on Saturday, September 12, from 1 to 3 pm.

The event seeks to create awareness of local volunteer opportunities in the greater Newtown area. Several local organizations will be participating, with tables and booths set up at the event.

There will also be activities for youth, including juggling, face painting and lantern making.

Information about volunteer opportunities and sign-ups for individuals to get connected with local volunteers will be offered.

Participants are invited to visit each booth and network and while enjoying ice cream from Ferris Acres Creamery.

For additional information contact Ben’s Lighthouse Program Manager Kelly Paredes at 203-426-9070 extension 15 or kparedes@benslighthouse.org.

NYA Sports & Fitness is within the Fairfield Hills campus, at 4 Primrose Street.

The ice cream social is a 2015 Newtown Arts Festival event. Newtown Cultural Arts Commission will be hosting a booth at the event, and inviting children of all ages to create paper lanterns to be used during a special event the following weekend.

For the fourth September, Newtown Cultural Arts Commission will present a two-day arts festival at Fairfield Hills.
Ben’s Lighthousewill hold an info session and, for those who are ready to sign up, an application session on November 17 for its July 2016 mission trip to Montana.
