Police Reports August 24 - September 2, 2013

DUI Incident

Police report they stopped motorist Boris Zilbershteyn, 52, of Brookfield near the intersection of South Main Street and Prospect Drive at about 9 pm on August 31 for driving violations.

Police said they charged Zilbershteyn with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and making a restricted turn.

Zilbershteyn was released on bail for a September 13 court appearance, police said.

 

Hawleyville Accident

A two-car accident took place on Hawleyville Road near Interstate 84 about 1:45 pm on August 28, according to police.

Police said motorist Maria Chimbo, 30, of Danbury was driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla hatchback southward on Hawleyville Road (Route 25) and then stopped in preparing to make a left turn onto an on-ramp at Exit 9.

While it was stopped, the Toyota was struck from behind by a 2005 Hyundai Elantra sedan driven by Danielle Sterry, 19, of Brookfield, police said.

Chimbo reported pain as a result of the crash, police said.

Police said they issued Sterry an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Police report they gave Chimbo an infraction for a motor vehicle violation.

Sandy Hook

Police report they responded to a call informing them of a one-car accident near the intersection of Berkshire Road and Bradley Lane at about 1:54 am on August 29.

After investigating, police charged motorist Crystal Burby, 32, of Derby with unsafe backing and with driving under suspension. There were no injuries. Police said they released Burby on $100 bail for a September 12 court appearance.

Mazda Vs Ford

A two-vehicle collision occurred about 4:14 pm on August 29 at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Pearl Street.

Police report that motorist Nancy Michaud, 17, of 78 Narragansett Trail was driving a 2008 Mazda Miata MX-5 convertible westward on Pearl Street, as motorist Peter Wallenta, 29, of 23 Sunnyview Terrace was driving a 1998 Ford Econoline van northward on Washington Avenue.

The Mazda then entered the roads’ intersection, resulting in a collision, police said. There were no injuries.

Police report they gave Michaud an infraction for a stop sign violation. Police said they issued Wallenta a summons for driving with a suspended license. Wallenta posted $200 bail and is scheduled for a September 12 court appearance.

DUI Case

At about 7:30 pm on August 24, police responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident on Philo Curtis Road in Sandy Hook.

Police said their investigation resulted in motorist Kaleb Rowe, 18, of 5 Russett Road being charged with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn. There were no injuries.

Police released Rowe on $100 bail for a September 12 court appearance.

Found Glove

Police report that at about 1:30 pm on Labor Day, Monday, September 2, following the end of the Labor Day Parade, a baseball glove that had been found near the intersection of Main Street and Glover Avenue was turned over to them for safekeeping.

The found item is a black and gray Worth-brand baseball glove. The owner may contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station at telephone 203-426-5841 to claim the glove.

Two Charges

At about 7 am on August 30, police stopped motorist Maria Reyes, 30, of Waterbury to investigate near 71 South Main Street. Police said they charged Reyes with following too closely and with driving under suspension. Police released Reyes on a written promise to appear in court September 12.

Dodgingtown Accident

At about 5:10 pm on August 30, motorist Deborah Saballos, 41, of Hamden, who was driving a 2009 Subaru Forester, stopped at a stop sign on Hattertown Road at its intersection with Dodgingtown Road, police said.

Motorist Veronica Liffland, 21, of Pawling, N.Y., who was driving a 2002 Mercedes-Benz ML-320 SUV, stopped behind the Subaru, police said.

The Subaru then moved forward and stopped, after which the Subaru was struck from behind by the Mercedes, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Liffland for following too closely.

Wasserman Way

Motorist June Zapherson, 48, of Monroe was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer SUV westward on Wasserman way, near its intersection with Mile Hill Road South, about 11:10 am on September 2, when due to adverse weather and slippery road conditions, the rear end of the Ford began to slide and went across the eastbound lane, according to police.

The Ford then struck the eastbound curb, went off the road, traveled down a bank and overturned, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Zapherson a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Sandy Hook Collision

Police said that at about 7:30 am on August 23, motorist Erin Brown, 19, of 49 Lakeview Terrace was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier sedan eastward on Berkshire Road.

At that time, motorist Joshua Gaberel, 27, of 14 Lone Oak Meadows Road, who was driving a 2003 Saturn Vue station wagon, was waiting at a stop sign on Lone Oak Meadows Road at its intersection with Berkshire Road, police said.

The Saturn then attempted to turn left onto eastbound Berkshire Road, resulting in a collision between the Saturn and the Chevrolet, police said. There were no injuries. Gaberel received an infraction for a stop sign violation, police said.

Traffic Stop

Police report that at about 11:22 pm on September 1, they made a traffic stop near 25 Main Street, pulling over motorist Ransford Wright, 42, of Bridgeport to investigate.

Police said they charged Wright with failure to illuminate a rear marker plate and with driving under suspension. Wright was released on a written promise to appear in court September 17.

Highway Crash

On westbound Interstate 84, about 500 feet east of Exit 9, on September 1, motorist Robert Masanotti, 24, of Southbury, who was driving a 2005 Mercedes-Benz ML-350 SUV, struck the rear end of a 2005 Toyota RAV-4 SUV driven by Maria Bisono, 43, of Danbury, state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Pickup Vs SUV

State police report that at about 4:50 pm on August 26, motorist Kristina MacPhail, 35, of Monroe, who was driving a 2009 Jeep Liberty SUV, slowed for traffic conditions on Interstate 84’s Exit 11 off-ramp, after which the Jeep was struck from behind by a 2002 Nissan Frontier pickup truck driven by motorist Agim Ismalli, 57, of Shelton.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

GTO Off Road

At about 5:30 pm on August 25, motorist Robert Bergeron was driving a 2006 Pontiac GTO in the center lane of three lanes on eastbound Interstate 84, about 1,500 feet east of Exit 11, when he lost control of the auto and then struck about 200 feet of guardcabling along the right road shoulder, state police said.

Bergeron was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.

Saturn Crash

State police said that motorist Brendan Clarkson, 23, of Fairfield was driving a 2001 Saturn L-200 auto eastward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, about 1:37 pm on August 25, when he lost control of the auto and it drove onto some turf along the right road shoulder, after which it entered a wooded area.

Clarkson was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.

Interstate Accident

A two-vehicle collision occurred on westbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, about 5:14 pm on August 24, state police said.

In that incident, a 2013 Hyundai Elantra that was driven by Elizabeth Weber, 55, of Newburgh, N.Y., struck a 2001 Chevrolet Express van driven by Gary Chevalier, 66, of 143 Head O’ Meadow Road, state police said. There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Larceny Arrest

Police report they arrested Kevin Savage, 24, of Waterbury on a warrant on September 4 at Danbury Superior Court, charging him with sixth-degree larceny in connection with an incident that occurred last December 6.

The police investigation resulting in the arrest stemmed from a complaint that police received from a gas station/convenience store at 62 Church Hill Road.

Savage was arraigned on the charge in court, but did not plead. He is scheduled to return to court on October 3. Savage is currently serving a prison sentence at Robinson Correctional Institution in Enfield on a violation of probation conviction.
