State Police List Holiday Weekend Enforcement

State police said that during the four-day Labor Day weekend from August 31 through September 3 inclusive, they ran a heightened motor vehicle violation enforcement project on the roads within the state which they patrol.

The troopers’ enforcement focused on drunken driving, aggressive driving, distracted driving, and speeding. State police said they used both sobriety checkpoints and targeted DUI patrols to look for drunken drivers.

The heightened enforcement period ran for 96 hours. During the period, state police issued 1,314 violations for speeding, 47 violations for failure to use seat belts, and 2,474 violations for other hazardous moving violations, such as unsafe lane changing, following too closely, and illegal cellphone usage/illegal texting, among others.

State police report they made 24 arrests for drunken driving.

Also, state police investigated 281 motor vehicle accidents; 63 accidents involved physical injuries. There were no fatal accidents, according to state police.
