To the Editor:

My name is David Rosen, and I am running for election this fall for Newtown’s Planning and Zoning Commission. I have lived in Newtown for nearly 20 years, and I have enjoyed raising my kids here, have hiked or ran in virtually every public open space, and greatly value the sense of community that we share.

As a full commission member, I will leverage the valuable experience I have gained over the past six years as a Planning and Zoning alternate.

As commissioners, our job is to create and execute zoning rules and adhere to the Town’s Plan of Conservation and Development, promoting thoughtful development in the best interest of our town. The many antique homes in town serve as a reminder that most structures we build, land we alter and regulations we change have a long-lasting impact on our town, both physically and economically.

As a result, I have taken very seriously each and every decision we have faced as a Commission. I have worked closely and cooperatively with members of both parties, and I believe if you asked commissioners from either party, I have always shunned partisan politics and put the town first because I care about its future.

As for this upcoming election, I look forward to the opportunity to earn your vote and continue as a reasonable voice to promote economic growth while preserving the characteristics that make Newtown a great place to live.

I’ve been fortunate to serve as an Alternate Commissioner on Planning & Zoning alongside Dave over the past 2 years. Even though we are running on separate tickets, I have no problem seconding everything he said in this Letter to the Editor. Dave is always a voice of reason and is committed to using both the Zoning Regulations and the Plan of Conservation and Development as the cornerstones of his opinions on each application brought before the Commission.
