Congregation Adath Israel of Newtown will be hosting two community-wide food drives spearheaded by the Care and Share Committee. The food drives will be drive-throughs to ensure safety for everyone. They will take place in the parking lot across the street from Adath Israel, located at 115 Huntingtown Road, Newtown.

As individuals drive up, members of Adath Israel will be collecting the food and placing it in collectors’ car trunks.

The first food drive is scheduled for Sunday, September 13, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Food collected from this drive will be delivered to the Monroe Food Pantry.

The second food drive will be held Sunday, October 4, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Food from this drive will be delivered to the Newtown FAITH Food Pantry.

Food drives are one way of showing Adath Israel’s commitment to Tikkun Olam, a Jewish concept defined by acts of kindness to better communities and the world. Drives such as these are an important source of supplies for pantries as COVID-19 continues to make life difficult for all.

Last year, Adath Israel donated a large quantity of food to the Newtown and Monroe food pantries.

In a release, Adath Israel states, “We welcome participation from the greater Newtown/Monroe community. Please join our food drives and give generously. Our help is needed more now than ever. Thank you in advance for your consideration.”
