To The Editor:

None of us wants to pay higher taxes. So how do we responsibly fund the services we require and where do our priorities lie? The answer depends on what kind of community we want to be.

Good leadership requires the courage to make difficult choices, balance competing needs with rising costs and remain mindful that some of our neighbors struggle to put food on the table, heat their homes, or afford healthcare. Compassion and fiscal responsibility are not opposing values. Effective leaders recognize that we need both and make decisions with the entire community in mind.

That is why I am voting for Michelle Embree Ku and Rob Blanchard. Their education, experience, and compassion will bring thoughtful, practical leadership to the table. They will carefully consider every issue affecting all Newtown residents and make difficult decisions based on what is best for the community as a whole. I hope you join me in supporting Michelle and Rob this election season.
