To the Editor:

Do you remember when government worked? When our elected officials reached across the aisle and compromised, working together to pass laws for the benefit of the people they represented? In those days, elected officials saw themselves as representing all of their constituents, not just those of their own party.

I remember. And that’s why I’m voting for Rebekah Harriman-Stites to represent Connecticut’s 106th Assembly district. She knows how to help everyone work together. As a member of Newtown’s Board of Education, Rebekah has always prioritized what is right for Newtown, not what is right for her party. She reaches across the aisle to find the best solution, even if it’s not the most politically expedient solution. She believes in progress through collaboration, rather than stagnant political posturing.

Rebekah has strong creative ideas on issues that are important to all of us, to make Newtown strong and keep our community beautiful. Her priorities include economic growth, property tax revision, strong schools, and transparent governing. You can learn more about Rebekah and her platform at rebekahfornewtown.com.

Rebekah knows first hand the challenges facing small business owners and families in Newtown. She will advocate for policies that directly benefit hard working Newtown residents, and she won’t stop until she has made Newtown stronger, better, and more prosperous.

Let’s make sure Newtown has an advocate who will fight for all of us. Let’s make sure Newtown has a strong independent thinker in Hartford, someone who will vote for what is right for Newtown, not just for one political party. Let’s elect Rebekah Harriman-Stites to be Newtown’s state representative.
