Michelle Ku: A Real Leader
To The Editor:
When we go to vote for state representative in November, let’s not be distracted by accusations and negative campaigning. Let’s vote for the person who can get it done for Newtown. That person is Michelle Ku.
There have been some misstatements about support for increasing the State mandate for Special Education, which provides state financial support to local education. Democrats, including Michelle Ku, agree that the state must increase its municipal school funding.
It was Democrats who introduced the 2026 bill (H.B. 5179 S.B. 7) to increase the per-pupil foundation. But in 2025, essentially the entire House Republican caucus, including Mitch Bolinsky, opposed a budget containing increased ECS funding.
Bolinsky likes to point out that he files a bill to fully fund Newtown's schools every year. But after more than a decade in Hartford, simply filing symbolic paperwork that dies in committee isn't a strategy, it's an excuse. Real leadership requires building the bipartisan support needed to actually deliver funding for our schools, not just repeating the same photo-op gesture every session.
Michelle Ku can make it happen. She is a skilled negotiator, and is already working with state legislators. With her depth of educational knowledge and experience, she will secure the additional ECS funds and move it forward to save Newtown property owners taxpayer money.
So let’s focus on who can get results for Newtown. That’s Michelle Ku.
Please vote early, or on November 3. And vote for Michelle Ku.
