To the Editor:

It is disappointing that letters, such as those written by Ms Elrick (“Disappointment At Senator’s Response,” September 4, 2020) and Ms Cooper, (“Why You Should Vote Blue,” September 11, 2020) continue to appear in The Bee. These writings provide essentially nothing about any accomplishments of the authors’ preferred candidates, but instead focus on disparaging the opposition, and in the case of Ms Elrick, tries to paint Tony Hwang with grossly erroneous information that furthers a false narrative promoted by a vicious media. For the sake of transparency, I serve as vice chairmen of the Newtown RTC. The opinions expressed here are my own.

To set the record straight, State GOP officers Romano and Hatfield were not sitting on alarming information about Republican candidate Tom Gilmer, who currently stands accused of domestic violence stemming from an incident in April 2017.

Ms Hatfield vehemently denies the accusation that she was privy to this information. (September 4th letter to Stamford Advocate). To date, neither Romano nor Hatfield have ever viewed the video in question. Additionally, Senator and attorney Len Fasano supported Romano’s handling of the matter, stating that it is incumbent on the individual who directly received the evidence to turn it over to authorities.

Senator Hwang had the common sense not to vilify parties who acted appropriately, as Ms Elrick would have him do. His actions are consistent with his extensive experience and record of fighting for all of us and arriving at bipartisan solutions. He’s got the kind of thinking and action we need to help get CT out of a $2.5 B deficit that’s heading for $135 B in unfunded future liabilities. In contrast to Democratic senator Chris Murphy who would remove law enforcement from our schools, Tony has been introducing laws that would increase penalties for perpetrators of crimes involving schools. Want common sense? Vote Hwang.

Respectfully,

William DeRosa
