Occupation: I’m a first-year physician in the Emergency Medicine Residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Penn.

Family: My father, Edward Kelleher, a local attorney, and mother, Doreen, live in Newtown. I have an older sister, Katherine, who lives in Stamford and works in finance.

How long did you live in Newtown? I was born and raised in Newtown. I didn’t move away until I was 23, after graduating from college and starting work in New York City.

What do you like to do in your free time? I really enjoy anything food related, mostly cooking or trying out new restaurants. I also enjoy getting outside when I have some time off. From the spring to fall I like to go hiking and in the winter I love to ski. I’m looking forward to doing more skiing now that I’m back closer to New England.

What is your favorite book? I’m not as big a reader as I used to be and can’t say I have an all-time favorite book. One of the more recent books I read that I really enjoyed was When Breath Becomes Air, an autobiography by Dr Paul Kalanithi. It provides a unique viewpoint of dealing with becoming terminally ill and trying to balance family, profession, and your own health. It’s a short but insightful and moving read.

What is your favorite travel destination? My favorite city in the world is London. I’ve been lucky enough to visit three times and live there for a month while I studied abroad. I feel like it has the energy of a big city like New York but with great historical aspect. In the states, I enjoy spending time at the beach with family in East Hampton, N.Y., or visiting friends in New York City.

What is the best part about Newtown? The best part of Newtown is the people. There are so many people that are invested in making Newtown a great place to live and are dedicated to helping out their neighbors. For example, it’s not everywhere you see a town as large as Newtown whose emergency services are mostly all volunteer.

What organizations are you part of in Newtown? I’ve been a member of the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps since I was 17. Throughout high school and college, I volunteered more in person, responding to 911 calls on the ambulance, but as I moved further away, I transitioned to a more virtual role, assisting in managing our technology. It’s a wonderful organization where I made some great friends and was able to work with others who truly care about the people of Newtown.

What has been the greatest influence in your life? My time with Newtown Ambulance was a great influence on my life. Although I always knew I wanted to go into medicine, having the opportunity to see it firsthand and work with people who were equally as passionate about service and medicine really drove me to further my education in Emergency Medicine.

If you could spend the day with one person, who would you choose and why? I think it would be great to spend a day and get a cooking lesson from Julia Child. I love to cook and appreciate how she brought fine cuisine to the everyday home. Plus, I’d probably get a great meal out of it!

Who is your favorite musical artist? Like with books, I don’t have an all-time favorite artist; I’m a big believer in shuffle and random playlists, so I’m always listening to something new. I was able to go to a performance by Catfish and the Bottlemen last fall and really enjoyed that.

What is something you cannot live without? This will be very millennial of me, but it would have to be my cell phone. Having moved a bunch in the last six years for work and school, and having an ever-changing hectic schedule now, the ability to just pull my phone out and catch up with my friends and family wherever they are when I have a few minutes is unbeatable.

What is your proudest accomplishment? My graduation from medical school was a day I was very much looking forward to. It was the cumulation of thousands of hours of hard work, and years of school and training. Although it was on Zoom, and I didn’t get to share in celebrating with my classmates, it was still an accomplishment I’m very proud of.
