To the Editor:

Because of all the dedicated volunteers who serve Newtown as members of the volunteer fire departments, our volunteer ambulance and the many town boards, commissions and committees, Newtown citizens enjoy the benefits of this very livable community.

The police commission has a vital role in maintaining the nature of this community and needs not only members who are dedicated to public service but also bring special talents, knowledge and experience to the commission’s work. Dr Neil Chaudhary brings 20-plus years in traffic safety, including working with police agencies across the country, to his current work with the Newtown Police Commission.

The police commission is the Town’s traffic authority, and I can’t imagine a more fitting person for that role. Newtown is lucky to have not only someone with his background in town but someone willing to volunteer their time for the benefit of Newtown.

Neil’s past work on the legislative council and specifically the application of his many years of traffic safety experience to help with the safe roads project in Newtown are evidence of his dedication to making Newtown a Livable Community for the benefit of all. I have worked with Neil on the Friends of Newtown Seniors (FONS) transportation committee and therefore know of his thoughtful approach to decision making.

I look forward to seeing him continue his role as police commissioner for another four years and invite you to join me in voting for Neil Chaudhary in November. The opinions and recommendation expressed here are my own and do not reflect an endorsement on the part of FONS.

John S. Boccuzzi, Sr.
