Town Withdraws ZBA Application On Proposed Road Link

At the September 20 Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) meeting, the town formally withdrew an application for zoning variances that it had sought in connection with its controversial proposal to link Little Brook Lane to Turkey Hill Road.

The ZBA accepted the withdrawal “without prejudice,” meaning that the town will be able to submit a revised version of its project for ZBA review in the future.

In August, the town proposal to link Little Brook Lane to Turkey Hill Road drew heavy opposition from residents of those streets who charged that such a connection would create bothersome and hazardous through traffic on what are now two dead-end roads. Petitions bearing more than 200 signatures of those opposed to a road connection were presented to town officials.

The town had proposed such a road linkage to improve access to the area by local emergency services and by the town’s highway department.

The town is expected to return to the ZBA soon with a new application that would result in Turkey Hill Road ending in a turnaround circle near the existing turnaround circle at the end of Little Brook Lane. Thus, the two roads would not be physically connected, but could be connected quickly if an emergency occurred, such as flooding in the area.
