Girls’ Volleyball Team Takes On FCIAC Foes

Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team had three consecutive matches against challenging FCIAC teams this past week. The Nighthawks, coming off a 3-0 setback to visiting Darien on September 16, fell 3-1 (25-22, 27-25, 25-21, 26-24) to Fairfield Ludlowe, in another home match, on September 19. The Nighthawks visited St Joseph of Trumbull on September 20 and earned their first win, 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 20-25, 26-24).

Against Ludlowe, Grace Miller logged ten kills, accumulated 16 digs, and had two blocks; Zosia Teraszkiewicz had 14 kills and 13 digs in addition to a trio of blocks; Ella Stubbs recorded seven kills and two blocks; Amaro Beard-Galati had four kills and three blocks; Annabel Saunders had three kills; and Emily Daoust had five digs. Haley Austermann racked up 24 assists and Gabby Soltis added 15 assists to go along with a pair of digs.

In the St Joes match, Miller had 17 kills and eight digs to go along with two aces; Teraszkiewicz recorded ten kills and 16 digs; Beard-Galati logged ten kills and four blocks; Austermann had an ace, a kill, four digs, and 26 assists; Bella Rio had four digs; Stubbs had six kills and a block; Soltis compiled 22 assists; Daoust recorded three digs; and Liz Anesi added two blocks.
