Dual Early Morning Accidents On Huntingtown Road

Police report that two separate motor vehicle accidents occurred adjacent to one another on a rain-slicked Huntingtown Road, the second of which resulted in multiple charges against the driver early on the morning of September 27.

Police report that motorist Nicholas Bonvini, 18, of 176 Huntingtown Road was driving a 2004 Toyota Highlander SUV southward near 121 Huntingtown Road at about 2:40 am, when the vehicle skidded on the wet road, went off the right side of the street and struck a tree.

The impact snapped the tree and caused it to fall across the road, police said. The fallen tree came into contact with some electric lines, resulting in police calling in the electric utility company to remove the tree hazard.

Bonvini was not injured in the accident, police said. Police added that they issued Bonvini a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Seventeen minutes after the initial accident was reported, at 2:57 am, an unidentified motorist, whom police referred to as a “youthful offender,” was driving a Toyota station wagon carrying one passenger northward on Huntingtown Road, police said.

At that time, the tree which had been knocked over in the initial accident was still lying across Huntingtown Road, police said.

Police said they signaled the youthful offender to stop and the vehicle slowed, but it continued onward and then collided with the fallen tree. There were no injuries.

After investigating the second accident, police arrested the youthful offender on charges of driving under the influence, disobeying a police officer’s signal, violating a driving curfew, and violating passenger restrictions for new drivers.

State law shields the identity of people under age 18 who are charged with such offenses. Youthful offenders are either age 16 or 17.

The youthful offender was released on $100 bail for an October 19 court appearance in Danbury Youthful Offender Court, according to police.
