Fairfield and Litchfield County are under a Tornado Watch (#394) this afternoon. The Watch is in effect until midnight tonight for Fairfield County, along with Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties in New York; and Bergen, Essex and Passaic counties in New Jersey.

The National Weather Service in New York City has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the region, including Connecticut’s two westernmost counties.

A simultaneous Hazardous Weather Outlook for southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey and southeast New York says “Showers and possible thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening could produce locally heavy rainfall and minor urban flooding. There is also a marginal risk for flash flooding.”

Meanwhile, a Tornado Warning has been put into effect until 6 pm for southern Fairfield County. At 5:35 pm a severe thunderstorm was located over Norwalk, moving east at 25 mph, according to the weather service.
