A Jaundiced View Of Our Town

To the Editor:

It would seem there just isn’t anything in Newtown to William Sheluck’s liking.

*He said the vote to appropriate the $21 million expenditure for Fairfield Hills was “not an overwhelming endorsement” because the town meeting also included other items on the agenda. (The Bee July 25, 2003)

*He said most people attending that meeting did not understand what they were voting for in regard to Fairfield Hills. (The Bee July 25, 2003)

*Regarding the Fairfield Hills referendum date, he said, “The first selectman has chosen a date... People don’t vote in primaries.” (The Bee July 25, 2003) Being a relative newcomer to Newtown, Mr Sheluck should be forgiven for not knowing the date was set by the bipartisan Board of Selectmen.

*With his own, separate campaign committee, he said, “I can use as much as I need to get the message out. It gives me more financial leverage.” (The Bee September 26, 2003). Are Newtowners really looking for a politician looking for “more financial leverage”?

Despite Mr Sheluck’s jaundiced view of our town, I still believe, “It’s Nicer in Newtown.”

Sincerely, Charles B. Browne, III
