A Jaundiced View Of Our Town
A Jaundiced View Of Our Town
To the Editor:
It would seem there just isnât anything in Newtown to William Sheluckâs liking.
*He said the vote to appropriate the $21 million expenditure for Fairfield Hills was ânot an overwhelming endorsementâ because the town meeting also included other items on the agenda. (The Bee July 25, 2003)
*He said most people attending that meeting did not understand what they were voting for in regard to Fairfield Hills. (The Bee July 25, 2003)
*Regarding the Fairfield Hills referendum date, he said, âThe first selectman has chosen a date... People donât vote in primaries.â (The Bee July 25, 2003) Being a relative newcomer to Newtown, Mr Sheluck should be forgiven for not knowing the date was set by the bipartisan Board of Selectmen.
*With his own, separate campaign committee, he said, âI can use as much as I need to get the message out. It gives me more financial leverage.â (The Bee September 26, 2003). Are Newtowners really looking for a politician looking for âmore financial leverageâ?
Despite Mr Sheluckâs jaundiced view of our town, I still believe, âItâs Nicer in Newtown.â
Sincerely, Charles B. Browne, III
