*Quickly announced late last week was the date – November 29 – and location – Mohegan Sun Arena – for the Connecticut stop of SIMON & GARFUNKEL’s reunion tour. And then tickets went on sale Monday morning. HUGE apologies to anyone who wanted to know about that show and its tickets ahead of time. I would have mentioned all of this last week if I had received the information prior to deadline.

Also coming to Mohegan Sun Arena this year will be DAVID BOWIE, on Tuesday, September 16. Tickets for that show are going on sale next weekend, on October 11, and will be priced at $55 and $75 apiece. Macy Gray will be doing an opening set.

Mohegan Sun uses tickets.com as a vendor, so go online or call 800-477-6849.

*SIDESHOW is on the road again this weekend, this time traveling to Hartford for a show at The Brickyard Café on Saturday. Upcoming shows for the Newtown band include October 17 at Black Rock & Blue in Bridgeport and The Thirsty Turtle in Stamford. Next month the guys will be at Shenanigans in South Norwalk on November 1, back at Black Rock & Blue on November 22, at Tuxedo Junction in Danbury on November 26, and back up at The Brickyard Café on November 29.

*To celebrate the release of Everything To Everyone, BARENAKED LADIES has announced a series of fall tour dates. Most shows are in much more intimate theaters than the most recent two the band did two years ago and primarily in arenas.

Tickets are on sale for a November 13 concert by the band at The Bushnell in Hartford, which has always been a super place for concerts. The theater’s box office can be reached at 860-987-5900 and all seats are $35.

*ALICE COOPER now has a second Connecticut show planned for his current The Eyes of Alice Cooper Tour. In addition to the previously announced November 1 show at Foxwoods Casino, one of rock’s oddest yet most consistent performers will also be in Stamford at Stamford Center for the Arts’ Palace Theatre on Tuesday, October 28. Silvertide will be opening the 8 pm show; tickets are $27, $42, $57 and $67. Contact SCA’s Palace Theatre box office for tickets directly at 203-325-4466.

*Tuxedo Junction in Danbury has (wisely, I think) decided to return to its format of Friday evening concerts, effective immediately. The Ives Street club will host shows this month by everyone from EVOLUTION and JOSHUA TREE, bands that pay tribute to Journey and U2, respectively, to BLUE OYSTER CULT on October 24. Next month’s highlights include MAX CREEK on November 14, and JEN DURKIN’S BOMB SQUAD the following week.

*As radio 104 winds down – the radio station has gone from being a super station that opened by playing commercial free truly modern rock to something that has come to play rap and hip-hop – the station will say farewell with a concert at The Webster Theatre this weekend. Doors will open at 3 Saturday afternoon for “Farewell To 104.” Newtown band DIOXIDE will be among those performing a farewell concert for a radio station that started out strong and ended quietly. I was one of radio 104’s biggest fans when the station first started, and loved the concerts they used to put on at The Meadows.

Tomorrow’s concert will also include sets by NOTHINGSTAR, INKLIP, GREY CELL GREEN, C4, ANOTHER DAY WASTED, FEAR NUTTIN BAND, NOLEDGE, NEW STATE OF MIND and DROP FACTOR.  Tickets for the show are just $10, and it’s an all-ages affair, of course.

Radio 104 changed nicknames on September 15, becoming Power 104 and joining the list of radio stations in Connecticut following the hip hop charts. The station is planning to play about 10,000 songs straight, which is expected to take a month according to a September 17 story that appeared in The Hartford Courant. After that, the station will have commercials and on-air personalities.

Tickets for RAT DOG AND BOB WEIR, also playing The Webster, are $30. That show is set for October 22 and is an all ages event.

Until next week I’ll be seeing you… on the road. In the meantime I’ll be taking 104.1 off the preset radio stations in my car.

Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown, CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141.

Shows listed at club locations are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
