The love of a good consignment piece is generational for Sandy Hook resident Leslie Troy, owner of Pemberley Designer Consignments in Monroe.

“My mom raised me on consignments, taking us up and down the Gold Coast from Norwalk, where I grew up,” she said. “It was a way to look great and still have some money left. It’s the same now with my daughter. It’s an adventure going to consignment places with her,” said Ms Troy.

Pemberley Designer Consignments held its grand opening Saturday, September 27, at the 605 Main Street, Monroe, boutique. Ms Troy and her 13-year-old daughter, Colby, had spent the last several months visiting brick and mortar consignment stores, as well as researching others online.

The former teacher, most recently in the Culinary Department at Newtown High School, was seeking a new career and decided to build on her long love affair with quality consignments. “I realized there was no consignment for adults in Monroe,” she said. She signed the lease on her 1,100-square-foot store in August, and began filling it with consignments, accepting juniors and women’s clothing, shoes, accessories, and handbags.

Pemberley Designer Consignments is named for the Darcy manor house in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. “You would only have been invited to Pemberley if you were high society,” said the self-professed Jane Austen fan, “and I wanted that same feel here.”

Ms Troy takes in consignments from higher-end stores such as Ralph Lauren, Ann Taylor, and White House/Black Market, or designer labels. “I’m surprised every day what people bring in, and how much of it is brand new, with the tags still on,” Ms Troy said.

The store carries juniors and women’s styles and sizes from petite to plus. No appointment is needed for consigning, and Pemberley is now accepting fall and winter clothing, through January. All items must be gently or never worn, or new, and in excellent condition. For consigners who cannot get to the store and have at least 50 or more items to consign, of high-end name brands, Ms Troy offers a Closet Concierge service, traveling to the client. Girls’ or Bride’s Night Out events are welcomed.

“I want people to walk through the doors and know they are getting the best possible quality for the money,” Ms Troy said. “The store has been so well-received. It’s fantastic,” she added.

Pemberley Designer Consignments is at 605 Main Street in Monroe, just past the Wood Market. Store hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 am to 6 pm; Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm; and Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm. Closed Monday. A Red Tag grand opening special of 10 percent off runs for the next several weeks. For more information on consigning, call 203-880-9158.
