SUV Vs Sedan

Police report that at about 4:35 pm on September 18, motorist Michael Petrucci, 55, of Danbury, who was driving a 2011 Ford Fusion sedan while attempting to a make right turn from Commerce Road onto eastbound Church Hill Road, stopped for a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Motorist Jacqueline Bagwell, 21, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2018 Jeep Renegade, attempted to stop, but the front bumper of the Jeep then struck the rear end of the Ford. There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Sugar at Elm Collision

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Sugar Street and Elm Drive about 7:36 am on September 24. Police said motorist Nancy Geraghty-Anastasi, 50, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima sedan northward on Elm Drive, as motorist Jennifer Ann Delia, 49, of Newtown was driving a 2010 BMW 528-XI sedan eastward on Sugar Street. The Nissan then attempted to turn left and enter westbound Sugar Street but struck the BMW, police said. There were no injuries. Geraghty-Anastasi received a written warning for a right-of-way violation.

Intersection Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and Mile Hill Road about 4:20 pm on September 24. In that incident, Paulo Miranda, 58, of Danbury, who was driving a 2015 Ford C-Max SUV, struck the rear end of a 2019 Hyundai Elantra driven by William Murphy, 23, of Redding, police said. There were no injuries. Miranda received a written warning for following too closely.

Subaru Hits Buick

About 5:31 pm on September 25 in heavy traffic, motorist Steven Cabrera, 27, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2011 Subaru Impreza on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, struck the rear end of a slowing 2016 Buick Encore driven by Teresa Lazariuk, 50, of Seymour, state police said. There were no injuries. Cabrera received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Boat Dumped

State police said that on September 26 they arrested George J. Petro, III, 38, of Naugatuck on a warrant, charging him in connection with allegedly illegally dumping an unwanted boat and boat trailer at Interstate 84’s Exit 11 commuter parking lot in July. State police said Petro is a self-employed junk removal person who was paid to remove the items from a Monroe residence, State police arrested Petro on charges of illegal dumping of bulky waste, driving an unregistered vehicle, and a motor vehicle equipment violation. Petro posted $1,500 bail for an October 10 court appearance.

School Bus Accident

Police report an accident involving a school bus carrying student passengers and a town police officer driving an unmarked police car about 2:53 pm on September 26. There were no injuries. Police said George Linebarger, 54, of Newtown was driving a 2019 Blue Bird school bus owned by All-Star Transportation northward on Main Street, just north of the police station’s northern driveway, when police officer Daniel McAnaspie, 42, who was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Impala sedan unmarked police car, exited the northern driveway and turned left to head north on Main Street. The bus then started to slow and the Chevrolet struck the rear end of the bus, police said. Police verbally warned McAnaspie for following too closely.

Hawleyville Crash

About 4:18 pm on September 26, motorist William DeRosa, 57, of Newtown was driving a 2017 Jeep Wrangler SUV southward on Hawleyville Road and approaching its intersection with Mt Pleasant Road, after which DeRosa stopped for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by Martha Tenesca, 35, of Danbury, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry sedan, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Tenesca for following too closely.

DUI At Intersection

Police report a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Wasserman Way about 9:23 pm on September 28. There were no injuries. The accident involved motorist Ivan Arpi, 42, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2001 GMC Savana van, and motorist Alison Royle, 53, of Monroe, who was driving a 2018 Toyota SUV, police said. After investigating the crash, police charged Arpi with driving under the influence and with following too closely. Police released Arpi on $100 bail for an October 8 court appearance.

Evading

About 4:28 am on September 29, motorist Timothy Wagner, 35, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV eastward on Interstate 84, near the Rochambeau Bridge, entered the highway median, struck some guardrailing, and then left the scene, state police said. There were no injuries. State police later charged Wagner with evading responsibility and failure to drive in the proper lane.

I-84 Crash

In heavy, slow-moving traffic on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, about 8:37 pm on September 29, a 2014 Honda Civic stopped and was then struck from behind by a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Dylan Keane, 20, of Southbury, state police said. There were no injuries. Keane received an infraction for following too closely.
