A Fun Family Event

To the Editor:

 This past weekend, Newtown distinguished itself when the Newtown Nighthawks Marching Band & Guard turned in a stellar performance, winning the Trumbull marching band competition and most of the special awards in their division. When the show ended, Newtown’s marching band and guard brought the packed Trumbull stadium to its feet with cheers and applause. The band and guard were pure joy to watch. For our marching band and guard to have this level of precision, musical technique, and grace on the field so early in the competitive season is testimony to the hours and hours the students and their adult coaches and directors spend perfecting the show. It is also testimony to how seriously these students take the music and their performance.

This Saturday night, it is Newtown’s turn to host the regional marching band competition. The Grasso Marching Band Festival begins at 5 pm in the Newtown High School stadium. If you have never been to a marching band festival, treat yourself this weekend. You will hear great music, witness unique performances, and always be immensely entertained.

As band parents, we look forward to sharing the Newtown Nighthawks Marching Band & Guard with our community, and to hosting a fun family event. See you at the show!
