The next meeting of the Genealogy Club of Newtown is scheduled for Wednesday, October 13, at 7 pm, via Zoom. It will feature Brynna O’Sullivan’s presentation of “I Know There’s A Will, But Where Is It?”

While most states have county level probate courts, Connecticut uses districts. District boundaries have changed over time, making finding an ancestor’s records a challenge.

O’Sullivan’s introductory level program walks participants through the basics of testate and intestate estates, identifying the appropriate probate district, locating digitized records, and what to do if the records have yet to be digitized.

O’Sullivan fell in love with genealogy as an elementary school student, when she discovered that her family was descended from the Mayflower passengers she was studying. Today, as a lineage society application specialist, she works hard to make her clients’ application process as stress-free and enjoyable as possible.

In her eight years of experience, she has assisted clients in joining the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, the National Society colonial Dames of America, and many others.

She is based in Middletown, and earned a BA in history and French literature, an MA in history, and an MA in theology. She has also completed the Boston University Certificate in Genealogical Research, the National Institute for Genealogical Studies Professional Learning Certificate in Genealogical Studies, and the ProGen Study Group, the DAR’s Genealogical Education Program, and more.

Genealogy Club of Newtown meetings are co-sponsored by C.H. Booth Library. Members of the Genealogy Club will receive an invitation to join the Zoom meeting. Nonmembers are welcome, and invited to send an e-mail to genclubnewtownct.secretary@gmail.com, along with their name, address and phone number, to request a program link.

Those planning to attend are asked to sign in by 6:45 pm, so that all are admitted before the meeting and program begin promptly at 7.
