Federation Hosts October Lunches, Flu Shot Clinics

SOUTHBURY — Two walk-in seasonal flu clinics are again being offered to the public at the Jewish Federation, 444 Main Street North. They take place on Tuesday, October 11, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, and Thursday, October 27, from 1 to 3 pm.

Shots are available for anyone age 9 and over, and preregistration is not required to attend either of the clinics.

Those seeking shots should bring their insurance cards. For those over age 65, accepted insurances for flu shots are: Medicare Part B or Aetna Managed Medicare, Anthem Managed Medicare or Connecticare Managed Medicare. For those under 65, covered insurances are Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Connecticare or Aetna.

There will be a charge for clients not covered by those insurances of $30, either cash or check, for flu shots. Shots are provided by VNA Health Care, and a consent form will be available to sign.

In other news, The Federation’s Love & Knishes Lunch Program will feature Judson Jazz on Wednesday, October 12, at noon. This local jazz and blues quintet is known for playing a heavy dose of American standards with bossa novas mixed in.

Two other programs round out the month’s entertainment at Love & Knishes. On October 19, a Good Old-Fashioned Spelling Bee beckons readers, wordsmiths, Scrabble mavens, and novices for a chance to have fun and win prizes.

And on October 26, “Songs We Love” will be performed by pianist Jeanne Hinkson, mezzo-soprano Helen Falcone of Heritage Village, and flutist Jenny Li as they perform an eclectic mix of classical, jazz, Broadway, and popular music.

Love & Knishes is open to the public. Reservations are requested by noon on the Monday before each program, and the suggested lunch donation is $7.50 for adults age 60 and better and $9.50 for those under 60.

To RSVP, call Debby Horowitz, Brownstein Jewish Family Service Director, at 203-267-3177, extension 3.
