U8

SuperStrikers 6, Mustangs 0: The SuperStrikers earned their first victory of the season behind two goals, each by PJ Salva and Abby Stites. Emi Rosenthal netted her first tally of the year and Julia Gerace chipped in with one as well. Gabriella Mogollon played a scrappy all around game and Kyra Masone and Maleeha Ali had fine performances in the spirited game. In a hard fought game, Lindsey Booth and Natalie DeSpagna played strong defense for the Mustangs, while Emily Tressler led a strong offensive attack

The Lightning Strikes 3, Dynamo Kids 1: The Lightning Strikes jumped out to a fast start with goals scored by Olivia Cornett, Becca Filiato and Caroline Drew. The game then settled down into a defensive struggle with Alyssa Bailey and Michaela Cosgriff of the Lightning Strikes and Kaia Gioffre of the Dynamo Kids, leading their respective defenses. Despite the strong offensive efforts of Taegan Smith and Carly Decker, the Lightning Strikes could not break through for any more goals due to the strong goaltending of birthday girl Amanda Stowe. A furious comeback by the Dynamo Kids led by an Emma Butler goal fell short, and The Lightning Strikes prevailed in this well-played match.

Warriors 4, Pink Dragons 1: The Warriors offense mounted a tremendous charge led by the 3-goal outburst from Katie Stan, a goal and assist from Olivia Buchler and relentless attacks from Charlotte Branchflower and Samantha Kuruc. Elizabeth Cassetta, Maggie LaBanca and Emma Magazu were strong on both sides as was Katie Jones in her soccer debut. Maggie Breault turned in a stellar performance in goal. The Pink Dragons played a strong game highlighted by great midfield play from Sophia Child and Maddie Greenhaw. Elle Sferruzzo, Tatum Radacsi and Mia Oltran were solid on defense and Gracie Soltis was superb in goal, despite the muddy conditions. Caroline Tousignant scored the Pink Dragons’ only goal on a beautiful breakaway play.

U10

Fire Cheetahs 2, Dynamite 1: Merije De Wit and Angela Carriero found the net for the Cheetahs. Kristina Goeree played strong defense, while goalies Alex Toth and Ruby Rose Rankin made key saves. Zoe Waller and Sophia Romano played strong defense for the Dynamite and Kayleigh Nolan and Jane Shearin had 14 saves in goal to prevent the Fire Cheetahs from widening their lead.

Easton Black 6, Newtown Funky Monkeys 1: The Funky ones found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard on their trip into Easton. Despite some impressive plays on defense by Maddie Stites, the Monkeys were pounced on quickly. Olivia Oltran fought hard in the first half, only to be taken out of the game by a wild ball. Sage Karp took several runs on her own downfield and finally came up successful after several attempts to get the Monkeys back in black. As the Monkeys pushed forward, brave Gigi Marino stood alone against a fierce Easton offensive attack and came through with a few smiles at least.

U11

Avon 1, Dynamites 0 (State Cup): Despite outstanding defense by Lindsay Merrifield and Grace Corcoran and spectacular saves by goalie Lauren Carrino, the Avon squad had a breakaway that resulted in a score. Keeley Kortze, Jenna Lavelle, Katie Sailer, Lauren Carrino, Rebecca Gavel and Brooke Antous all had shots but were unable to find the back of the net.

Dynamites 1, Stamford 1: Despite an offensive press by Keeley Kortze, Rebecca Gavel, Kristen Cirone and Jenna Lavelle, Stamford struck first. Brooke Antous’s shot went just over the net, ending the half. Kortze and Antous increased offensive pressure in the second half. Lauren Carrino tied the game when she was left open on the left side of the goal and pounded one in. Grace Corcoran, Audrey Benson and Lu Hage were relentless on defense and Lauren Adams and Lindsay Merrifield contributed at midfield. Goalies Carrino and Cirone both made multiple saves. Shots were also made by Lavelle and Katie Sailer but the game ended in a tie.

U12

Panthers 1, Weston 1: The Panthers kept their State Cup winning streak alive with their second 1-0 victory against Weston on Saturday. Lauren Russo, Danni Otero and Kaitlyn Reilly led the Panthers’ offense with their seamless teamwork. Charlie Condon made a beautiful header returning the ball up field, while Allie Paynter and Juliette Grover never let up the pressure on Weston’s defense. Elizabeth Chamiec-Case threaded her awesome footwork through the defense, while Maria Ringes and Greta Staubly pushed the ball up field. Mary Hufziger covered the midfield, answering all of Weston’s moves. Priya Deraney accepted an assist from Danni Otero for the Panther’s winning goal. The defensive effort was lead by the fine goaltending of Alex Futterman, only to be matched by the smart play of Catherine Shaw, Kira Kelly and Brianna Benson. Audrey Sedensky and Diana Kirkman led the Panther’s wall of resistance by answering Weston’s every move.

Fairfield 5, Panthers 1: Outnumbered and outsized, the Panthers never gave up the fight. Charli Condon showed her aggressive play and beautiful passing, while Lauren Russo dominated the field with her speed and resilience. The Panthers connected for a beautiful goal by Kaitlyn Riley. Goaltending was epic with physical saves by both Maria Ringes and Alex Futterman. Audrey Sedensky, Briana Benson and Diana Kirkman demonstrated Panther Pride by making Fairfield earn every inch of the field.

U13

Wallingford 2, Thunder 0 (State Cup): The Thunder battled hard, but could not get anything going offensively against a strong Wallingford club.

Thunder 3, Darien 0: Newtown bounced back with a victory against prior week Cup foe Darien. Jess Maturo opened the scoring with a goal off a pretty pass from Amanda Albanese. Shots on goal in the first half came from Kendra Dunnigan, Stef Carr, Lauren Cirrone and Albanese. In the second half, the majority of play continued in the Darien third, as pressure from defenders Grace Sandercox, Olivia Caplan and Lauren Beier prevented the ball from crossing midfield. Maturo scored again as the Darien goalie could not secure a blast off the foot of Hailey Conrad. The final goal was scored by Meghan Doyle as she rebounded another strong shot, this one from the speedy Ali Manfredi. Doyle, Carr and Albanese shared goaltending duties.

U14

Wild Animal Prints 1, Ninjas 0: Wild Animal Prints played one of their toughest opponents of the year and squeaked out a victory with a last minute goal by Liz Weisgerber with the assist coming from Danielle Scarpa. In goal, Megan Nahmias and Joanelle Tran played well. They also stepped up and demonstrated solid defense along with great ball control when out on the field. Kayla Disiblio played front center defense and attacked the ball by applying great pressure. In a number of instances Lexie Badick was playing left fullback and held off many tough attacks. For the Ninjas, Katerina Ringes and Rachel Tomasino produced several scoring chances with their creative and energetic play. Emma Brantl, Olivia Butler and Rachael DiCristina locked down the midfield through their tireless effort and intelligent passing. Sarah Brittin, Allie Reczek and Jillian Milano made several game-saving tackles to lead the aggressive defense, while goalkeepers Haley Taylor and Jordan Williams made incredible saves to keep the game within reach of the Ninjas.

Boys

U8

The Blue Thunder 3, Team Two 3: In a back and forth game filled with multiple chances and great plays made by both sides the game ended, fittingly, in a tie. For the Blue Thunder, all three goals were scored by Markus Paltauf for the hat trick. Assisting on the first goal were J.P. O’Leary and Ethan Appiah. The second goal was assisted on a great feed by Calum Edmond and the third goal came from an assist from James Ciaramello. Also playing a solid game on both sides of the field were Owen Reinhart and Michael Elston, while George Sandercox made some stellar saves in net.

U10

Nightmares 4, Fairfield Storm 1: The Newtown Nightmares dismissed an early goal in the first half off Fairfield with a strong offensive effort led by Justin Dethomas who pounded in the first goal for Newtown. Ryan Beardsley soon followed it up with a beautiful shot into the back of the net, supported by Will Pelisson who brought a solid game of attack. Kyle Duval provided an unyielding defense in the first half, and had several close shots on goal in the second, while Duncan O’Leary and Ben Futterman offered fantastic midfield support. Harry Kelchner came through with two more goals to secure the win for Newtown.

U11

Vipers 3, Ridgefield 1: The Newtown Vipers improved to 4-0 this fall season with a win over the Ridgefield. Dylan Sock’s corner kick was mishandled by the Colt’s goalkeeper giving the Vipers an early lead. Midway through the second half, CJ Trivers converted a perfect pass from Dylan Sock and scored. A few minutes later, the Vipers put the game away when Owen Sullivan blasted a shot past the goalkeeper after receiving an excellent pass from Adam Farley. Sean Arnold and Jack McDermott keyed a strong defensive effort for the Vipers.

U12

Titans 6, Westport 0: John Finnegan scored the first goal of the game followed quickly by a second goal made by Thomas Skrelja. Christian Adam made a well-placed third goal. John Finnegan’s second goal of the game was the team’s fourth goal and Nicholas Weiland scored an impressive fifth goal off the head of one of the opposing team players. Henry Petrillo scored the sixth and final goal of the game. The defense and midfielders did a fantastic job of keeping the ball on the opposite end of the field for almost the entire game.
