The Newtown Farmers Market is open until October 25, and there are still many options available for purchase from its vendors.

In the afternoon of September 27, all three market managers — Natalie McCraigh of Wonderland Jam, Sue Shortt of Shortt’s Farm, and Sean Fitzpatrick of Real Food CT, formerly called Real Food Share — reflected on how the season has been since the market opened on June 22 for 2022.

Shortt said it was “all in all a great season.”

McCraigh shared that the produce selections are starting to run low. In fact, September 27 marked the last week Shortt’s Farm will have a booth at the market, according to Shortt.

McCraigh said other Newtown Farmers Market producers will continue to participate for as long as possible.

At his Real Food CT booth, Fitzpatrick said, “There’s still plenty [available].”

September and October are “phenomenal” months to visit farmers markets, Fitzpatrick reflected, adding that it is still just as important, if not more so, to continue to support local farmers markets.

Ian Appleby, who organized the music performances for the Newtown Farmers Market this season, was at the market on September 27 also. He shared that he has had “great feedback” about the addition of music and he has hopes of featuring more local musicians next year.

Twenty vendors participated in the market this year, Shortt said.

The Newtown Farmers Market runs Tuesdays through October 25 from 2 to 6:30 pm at Fairfield Hills.

The Newtown Farmers Market is held rain or shine; however, it does close in extreme weather, such as high winds or thunderstorms.
