Pet Owners Not Cleaning Up At Memorial

To The Editor:

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of visiting your beautiful town, as the guests of local residents Sal & Linda Scianna. One of the places we went to visit was The Sandy Hook Elementary School Memorial. What a beautiful memorial — very simple, yet very beautiful. As we entered onto the walkway, a very prominent and straightforward sign caught my attention…”No Dogs Allowed."

At first I gave it no thought…then about 20 steps further down the path, there it was — the first of four piles of dog droppings!

Come on people! Where is your sense? Not just your common sense, but your sense of pride in your community, your sense of pride in what certainly is considered Sacred Grounds, your sense of respect for those that this Memorial site honors, and perhaps most important of all, your respect for the families of the 20 students and six staff members gunned down on that horrific morning.

Did it ever occur to you that family, friends and complete strangers come here to reflect, pay tribute and grieve?

Wake up folks, whoever you are, and walk your dog elsewhere! Shame on you!
