The Second Company Governor's Horse Guard's (2GHG) third annual 5k/10k trail race will take place on Saturday, October 26, beginning at 9 am.

Located across the street from the Fairfield Hills Campus, this rolling 5/10K trail race has some elevation pitch to add excitement, as well as beautiful picturesque meadows, and wooded forest.

In addition to the 5K, sponsored by the Friends of the Second Company Horse Guard, there will be a 10K to offer more opportunity for runners and walkers of the community to share their property. This run also gives participants and spectators another opportunity to come and meet the troopers and a cavalry horse or two. Teams are encouraged and organizers of the event will provide finishing medals for every registered participant, as well as certificates for top place. Post-race food will be provided. Walkers are encouraged to join in the fun, and dogs on a leash are always welcome.

Cost to participate is $30. All proceeds raised goes towards the administration of the race and the upkeep of the horses. The 2GHG is an all-volunteer state-organized militia unit, originally charted in 1808 to protect and escort the Governor. As an active Cavalry unit, 2GHG continues to serve the Governor and State of Connecticut at the direction of the Connecticut Army National Guard, under the command of the Adjutant General. The main duties of the unit are as a ceremonial unit, partaking in parades and public services to schools, scouting groups, and special needs to educate the public about the history of the State of Connecticut. They are a unit of all walks of life including Veterans of our Armed Forces and are ready to serve at a moment's notice should they get called upon.
