Rocking The Hook Draws Crowds Despite Rain Threat
With tents set up to protect against predicted rain that never came, last weekend’s Rocking the Hook in Sandy Hook drew a constant stream of spectators to its line-up of music as well as family-friendly activities.
The event, which occurred over eight hours on October 1, was located at the Sandy Hook Village Green, overlooking the Pootatuck River.
“Despite the gloomy forecast, the rain stayed away luckily, but I think a lot of people may have changed to indoor plans,” said Event Coordinator Maribeth Hemingway. “I think this was our biggest turnout yet and the committee was very pleased. We are very thankful for our generous sponsors and volunteers and are looking forward to next year!”
Rocking The Hook host Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP), and Title Sponsor Farrell Communities were there for the annual event, returning for the first time since 2019.
Hemingway said she and others were excited to be back after a two-year hiatus.
Four local bands — The Dirt Road Pickers, Blonde & Grey, The Traveling Danburys, and Green Eyed Lady — performed at the event.
Food from FD Chefs and El Taco Loco was featured in addition to fare available from several establishments within walking distance.
Family activities included a bounce house, face painting, and visits with Newtown-Strong Therapy Dogs.
“Our guests really seemed to enjoy the addition of several new attractions; the Bounce House, face painting, the Newtown Strong Therapy Dogs, a juggler, food trucks, and the wine and beer tent were all big hits,” Hemingway said. “This was a great opportunity to share details about Heritage Park with the public.”
