Mary Frances Haun Salley, 90, formerly of Newtown, passed away on September 25, 2022. Mary was born December 2, 1931, in Ohio, daughter of the late Harold and Elenore (Layman) Haun.

Mary graduated from Holy Cross Academy in Lynchburg, Va., and St Vincent De Paul School of Nursing in Norfolk, Va., earning her RN. After studying Nursing Administration at University of Virginia, she had a long, fulfilling career as a registered nurse, working for more than 50 years all over the east coast from Massachusetts to Florida. Her favorite assignment was obstetrics at Peekskill Community Hospital in the 1970s. She had many hobbies, including writing, character doll making, gardening, and knitting, always ensuring that her family and friends had new handmade hats, gloves, and scarves every winter.

She leaves behind her dear sister, Susan Blondino of Lutz, Fla.; and six children: Ruth Calaycay of Peru, Mass., Mary Ellen Freddo of Tampa, Fla., Earl Salley of Cape Coral, Fla., Susan Doolittle of Tampa, Fla., Charles Salley and wife Robin of Bedford Hills, N.Y., and J. Paul Salley and wife Mary of Newtown. She will also be remembered by thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as 25 nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her sisters Elizabeth Palm and Nancy Hoffman, and brothers, Robert Haun and Charles Haun.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Salley home in Newtown, Conn., at a future date.
