Mitch Bolinsky, Above And Beyond

To the Editor:

Last year someone some relatives — one of whom is a new cancer survivor — allowed the CT exchange, Access Health, to automatically renew their medical insurance on November 1, which they always do without any trouble. However, something went wrong with the system, and no renewal letter came. Eight weeks of phone calls to the exchange repeatedly ended in promises to “look into it.” Then it was December 26, with five days left in the year and extremely important (and extremely expensive) cancer tests scheduled for early January, and no health insurance!

E-mails to various state and federal representatives resulted in radio silence — not so much as a boilerplate response. Nothing, zip, nada — until we contacted Mitch Bolinsky. He worked his magic (and his contacts) and the very next day my relatives had their health insurance (and their insurance card by the 30th).

That he worked without rest until the problem was solved during the holiday week was astonishing to me, and that he was so kind and concerned, repeatedly getting in touch with us to make sure we had heard from people he had contacted, was the sign that he really and truly is a “public servant,” something that seems almost to have vanished in these days when (from my personal experience) representatives often use their positions as mere stepping-stones on a political career track, and represent their party rather than work for their constituents.

Needless to say our family will be voting for Mitch.
