To the Editor:

I am a campaign intern for Rebekah Harriman-Stites supporting her candidacy for Connecticut’s 106th State Legislative District, and I want to talk about why I became involved and support Rebekah. During the elections in 2018, I saw that Rebekah was a strong candidate with her experience working to start a business and as the vice-chair of the Board of Education. I joined the campaign and worked for three months phone-banking, going door to door, helping at events, and aiding in other campaign efforts. I am now a junior at Newtown High School, and having a representative with leadership experience and who makes funding for education a priority is very important. Especially in this time of increased concern with COVID-19, I know Rebekah is a candidate that knows how to handle difficult situations and can help to lead people through the process of opening schools responsibly. Rebekah’s policies will work to make changes and benefit everyone in the community from her focus on Newtown’s economy to her stance on gun violence prevention that will help to keep people safe. Despite challenges caused by the pandemic, Rebekah continues to work hard, since she has been hosting video meetings along with making phone calls in order to stay connected with the community and get out the vote.

Sincerely,

Jake Schumer
