Parish Celebrates 90 Years

DANBURY — Area residents are invited to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, October 20-21. The church will sponsor a series of events throughout the weekend including a fundraiser banquet Saturday, October 20, at 6:30 pm at the Fireside Inn, 123 South Main Street, Newtown. Entertainment includes a special Russian dance performance. Tickets are available by contacting Holy Trinity Orthodox Church at 748-0671.

Proceeds from the event will help fund the ongoing construction of a wooden-style Capatho-Russian church that will served as a historical landmark and architectural work of art for the entire community to enjoy. In addition, the much needed new facility will better help serve the growing needs of the expanding parish while preserving the rich cultural heritage of its members.

Phase one of construction is already underway; however, more than $1 million is still needed to continue site preparation, construction, and beautification. Once completed, the new church will be the first of its kind in Connecticut and joins only a few that exist in the United States.

Founded in 1911, Holy Trinity Church is the oldest Orthodox Church in Danbury. A sanctuary for more than 30 New York- and Connecticut-based families, Holy Trinity appreciates and is strengthened by the many diverse backgrounds and abilities of its members and is dedicated to serving the community at large.
