Quilting To Be Topic

Of Presentations At Danbury Library

DANBURY — For those who admire quilts from afar as well as those who enjoy creating quilts, the Danbury Library has planned two program to interest both of these groups.

On Sunday, October 18, Susan Jerome, the collections manager at the University of Rhode Island Historic Textile and Costume Collection, will talk about the role of quilts in American culture and folklore. From 2 to 3:30 pm, participants will also learn about the proper way to store special textiles.

Participants are encouraged to bring in a quilt or quilted object and if time allows, Ms Jerome will use the objects to illustrate and enhance the presentation.

The following Sunday, October 25, representatives from The Quilt Shop in Danbury will demonstrate the cutting and sewing of a simple quilt block using a sewing machine from 2 to 4 pm. They will also demonstrate time-saving tools and methods.

Participants will each receive a $10 off coupon for a class at the store and a chance to win door prizes.

Both programs are free of charge. Registration is requested; call the library’s community relations office at 796-8061.

Danbury Library is at 170 Main Street, at the corner of West Street.
