To the Editor:

I wish I could vote on November 3rd for Rebekah Harriman-Stites to represent me in Hartford, but I can’t. I live in that tiny slice of Sandy Hook that is oddly not part of the 106th District, but part of Monroe’s (the 112th). But most of the rest of you (90 percent of Newtowners) can vote for Rebekah, so I ask you to do what I cannot and send her to Hartford. Rebekah will help Newtown.

Do you want to finally have your voice heard in our capital? Are you concerned about economic development, property taxes, strong schools, legislative gridlock, the rights and needs of seniors, and maintaining our fine, rural quality of life? Rebekah has been engaged in helping Newtown in these and so many other ways for more than 20 years. She can’t help but be engaged. That’s who she is.

Rebekah has been on the Newtown Board of Education since 2015. For eight years she ran a small, highly successful business that raised funds for not-for-profit organizations. She is now Director of Development for Ann’s Place, a treasured Connecticut nonprofit providing free support services to current and former cancer patients.

Rebekah founded Newtown Forward, a nonpartisan group of concerned citizens working to help Newtown move ethically into the future. She helped found the My Sandy Hook Family Fund and EverWonder Children’s Museum and chaired the leadership/community engagement program of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council.

It’s time for us to have a creative and dynamic thinker, a hard worker, and a natural leader representing us in Hartford. Did I mention that Rebekah’s intelligence and vitality light up a room? It’s time for some new energy — time to elect Rebekah Harriman-Stites as Newtown’s state representative.

Sincerely,

Susan Kassirer
