To the Editor:

As a professional with over a decade of policy and boots-on-the-ground experience, I know my skills will help us realize a thriving future for Connecticut. I specifically sought the Senate seat because I think it is essential for our legislators to see a path forward that benefits everyone in the state and represents communities as diverse and unique as Newtown.

As a frequent visitor, I know Newtown is a true treasure. The performances at Edmond Town Hall, the festivals and events, the breweries and restaurants, walking trails and gorgeous views, and the sense of community and the warmth of its residents makes Newtown unique. When I talk to Newtown voters, I learn something that will help me be a great Senator for your town. From small business owners who need help rebuilding consumer confidence to students concerned with student loan debt and implicit bias in schools, from seniors wanting to age in place to a community concerned with accessible and affordable health care — my policy priorities have been determined by all of you. As Senator I will champion:

1. expanding access to mental health services; 2. strengthening our businesses by lowering the cost of health insurance through a public option, benefits reforms that allow businesses and employees take risks to grow, infrastructure that helps businesses pivot during the pandemic, and increasing our broadband capacity; 3. expanding our green economy by increasing competition in the marketplace to lower our electricity costs; 4. addressing inequity across all sectors and 5. ensuring our seniors can afford to stay in Newtown and are cared for by a well-trained and -compensated workforce. I see every day how Newtowners look out for each other. As your Senator, I will look out for and take care of Newtown.

Michelle McCabe

Democratic Candidate, 28th Senate District
