To the Editor:

It is hard to believe that there are only about two weeks before Election Day. This campaign season has been one of the most hard-fought that I have seen recently. Looking at the schedule over the next couple weeks, we will be in full swing with forums, meet & greets, Halloween on Main Street, and two more weeks of letters to The Newtown Bee. There are a couple of things that I wanted to write about though as we approach the closing weeks.

The first item I wanted to talk about is some of the negative things that are taking place during the campaign season. As I mentioned, this has been one of the hardest races I have experienced in the past few years, and it has brought out a lot of negativity. That is something that I (sadly) accept on social media, but I have seen other instances of tearing down candidates in the form of letters, destruction of property (like signs), and other actions being taken against candidates. Each candidate has their supporters, and that is great, but I would hope to see supporters get the word out about why they feel their favorite candidate is the best choice, versus why their opponents are bad choices.

On a more positive note, a couple of weeks ago I was told that the Connecticut chapter of the American Federation of Teachers is giving me its endorsement for the Board of Education. AFT CT represents over 30,000 teachers, support staff, and workers in other sectors and I am honored that they feel I am deserving of their endorsement.

I hope that everyone will spend the next two weeks focusing on reaching out to any candidates, get to know our positions, and decide who they feel best represents them for the next two to four years.

Thanks.
