To the Editor:

From reading endorsements recommending the reelection of Rebekah Harriman-Stites to the Board of Education, you will know that she has been a key member on a number of important initiatives. Rebekah has championed social-emotional learning and mental health for our students by listening to our community. She supplied key arguments ensuring that the district hires a grant-writer position, which was able to pay for itself immediately and continues to provide important support.

On the Board of Education, Rebekah always digs into the details to research issues and come to conclusions based on data. She has also put in countless hours on the Policy Committee, including chairing the committee, to ensure that safety, ethics, and equality are held to the highest standards throughout the school system.

When I was chair of the Board of Education, Rebekah was my top choice to lead the Superintendent Selection Committee because I knew she would be able to balance the time commitment with ensuring everyone’s voice was heard. Rebekah’s ability to keep the committee focused on results drove an excellent process, ensuring Newtown a Superintendent we are proud of.

I sincerely endorse Rebekah Harriman-Stites for another term on the Newtown Board of Education and encourage you to vote for her as well.
