Maplewood Senior Living, a leading provider of luxury senior living residences, will host “A Personal Perspective with Geri and Jim Taylor,” on Wednesday, October 30.

The program will be offered from noon to 2 pm at Maplewood at Southport, 917 Mill Hill Terrace in Southport, and then at 5 pm at Maplewood at Stony Hill, 46 Stony Hill Road (Route 6) in Bethel.

The discussion will provide insightful information on the reality of living with Alzheimer’s disease from the point of view of Geri Taylor, who was diagnosed at the age of 69 in 2012. Accompanying Mrs Taylor for the talk is her husband and care partner, Jim.

Together the couple will discuss their experience of receiving the diagnosis and how they have continued to live full and rewarding lives with her disease. The Taylors will share useful strategies and tips on remaining independent and inspired to continue to pursue life passions.

The New York Times profiled the couple in 2016, four years after Mrs Taylor received her diagnosis. The article discusses everything from how she first came to find out about her condition to her acceptance and living life to the fullest, despite difficulties.

The couple continues to share their story with audiences across the country, giving insight to others on having a normal life with a cognitive disease as well as ways to support others who have received an Alzheimer’s diagnosis.

Gregory D. Smith, president and CEO of Maplewood Senior Living, says the couple’s story “has opened up a candid conversation on the reality of living with a disease like Alzheimer’s.

“Their work has destigmatized the negative perceptions often associated with an Alzheimer’s diagnosis and has given people hope that there is life beyond this disease,” he added

The Maplewood events are open to the public. There is no charge, but reservations are requested by October 26. Maplewood at Southport can be reached at 203-418-2202; Maplewood at Stony Hill can be reached at 203-207-4100.
