To the Editor:

In the final days of this pandemic election season, candidates are busy trying to get their message out to Newtown voters. The Democratic candidates have been focused on their ideas on how to move Newtown forward. While it has been disheartening to read letters from Republican supporters that are filled with lies and fear-mongering, our candidates focused on Newtown and how they can serve all of us in Hartford.

Raghib Allie-Brennan has been a staunch advocate for Newtown’s 2nd District. He has showed that he responds to our needs, helping connect local businesses to grants and supports during the pandemic, worked hard to ensure our veterans receive the supports they have earned. He introduced Brian Cody’s Law to fight the opioid epidemic.

Michelle McCabe has the experience we need in the State Senate. She will amplify our voices. She knows how to make government work for us, how policies work to improve our communities. She is the director of the Center for Food Equity and Economic Development with the Council of Churches of Greater Bridgeport and knows how government and the private sector can work together to solve crisis here.

Rebekah Harriman-Stites is the woman who can ensure that Newtown’s voice is heard in Hartford. Her work on the BoE pushes our schools forward despite the annual calls to slash school funding. Her advocacy for seniors will help ensure a livable community for all our families. Rebekah can work across party lines to get things done. She’s a fighter who doesn’t give up and always believes in Newtown.

Newtown continues to grow and change. We need leaders who can do the same. This election day, vote for leaders who will work; that is, for all of us.

Eric Paradis

Chair, Newtown Democratic Town Committee

85 Riverside Road, Sandy Hook October 28, 2020
