To the Editor:

I live in District 3 in Sandy Hook and, feeling fully secure for the past two years with Alison Plante representing me in the Legislative Council, I enthusiastically endorse her for another term.

An avid advocate for our schools, Alison has been working tirelessly to make sure they remain as excellent as they are and to initiate improvements when needed. With two children in the Newtown school system (and another, younger one, on his way), Alison has not only been an active member of the council’s Education Subcommittee, but is also a dedicated member of the Middle Gate PTA and a Girl Scout leader.

A working mother, with more than a decade of experience in corporate strategy as manager, strategy and transformation at a major financial institution, Alison serves as chair of the Legislative Council’s Finance and Administration Subcommittee. As such, she has generously applied the valuable skills she has acquired through her career to the needs of our town.

Alison was instrumental during the last two years in the Democratic-majority council’s victory in keeping our taxes flat and bringing tax relief to the town through the council’s support of the Economic Development Commission’s successful efforts to bring more businesses into Newtown. During the next term, Alison also hopes to help build a stronger relationship between the Legislative Council and the local Allies for Change group.

What I love about Alison, besides her affable, welcoming manner and intelligence, is how, when she sees that something needs doing, she takes action — case in point, running for the Legislative Council two years ago and now, with two years of invaluable experience, running again.

Let’s make sure Alison gets that second term. Let’s get to the polls on November 2 and vote for Alison Plante.
