Awareness In Every Moment

WOODBURY — Woodbury Yoga Center will host a free public program on Sunday, October 31, beginning at 6:45 pm.

Mary Ellen Porrata will lead a discussion concerning how the practice of yoga can go beyond exercise, facilitating healing and life fulfillment.

Ms Porrata has a master’s degree in nursing and is as a nurse practitioner with experience in adult medicine and geriatrics. She has a strong interest in mind-body medicine, and completed clinical training at the Mind Body Medical Institute in Boston.  She is also a member of Lotus, a Waterbury area group of health practitioners involved in integrative health care.

Ms Porrata has been practicing yoga and meditation daily for over five years, and teaching for the past two years. She teaches Hatha yoga for beginners at Woodbury Yoga Center and affiliated satellite locations. She enjoys blending different styles of postures, along with deep relaxation and visualization, keeping in mind the individual needs of her students.

After the talk and discussion, there will be a silent group meditation and an informal tea. Free meditation instruction will be available.

Next weekend’s program, on November 7, will be “Living In Contentment: Understanding and Practicing the Principles of Yoga,” presented by WCC’s co-founder Janaki Pierson.

Woodbury Yoga Center, at 122 West Side Road, can be reached for additional information at 203-263-2254.
