Volleyball Team Maintains Winning Ways

Newtown High School's girls' volleyball team remained unbeaten at 9-0 heading into a Wednesday, October 28, scheduled match with New Milford. The Nighthawks had a run of six consecutive 3-0 wins snapped but prevailed 3-2 over host Pomperaug of Southbury on October 21, then bested host Bethel 3-0 on October 26.

Against New Milford, the Hawks came from behind after trailing two games to one; scores were 25-22, 22-25, 20-25, 25-9, 15-8.

Sarah Nowacki had five aces, 13 kills, and nine digs; Delia Clouden had four aces; Kate Petersen had three aces and nine kills; Keyera Smith logged an ace, seven kills, and six digs; Maddie Patrick tallied an ace and five digs; Shannon Muckell had four digs; Maggie McInerney had three aces and three digs, respectively; and Amanda Araujo and Grace Miller both had three kills.

NHS beat Bethel by scores of 25-17, 25-17, 25-15. McInerney had five aces and three kills. Petersen had three aces, six kills, and three digs; Smith had three aces, five kills, and five digs; Nowacki logged six kills; Miller had four kills and four digs; Araujo had an ace, four kills and two digs; Clouden tallied five kills; and Patrick had two aces and four kills.

The Hawks, following the New Milford match, have a November 2 clash with Abbott Tech and November 4 match with Brookfield. Each of the team's remaining matches are at home, beginning at 4:15 pm.
