Volleyball Team Earns No. 2 Seed In SWC Playoffs

Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team won three consecutive 3-0 decisions to close out the regular season and will host a South-West Conference tournament playoff match on Saturday, October 29. Newtown earned the No. 2 seed and will host No. 7 Masuk of Monroe at 4 pm.

The Nighthawks defeated Kolbe Cathedral on October 20, host Brookfield on October 21, and visiting Stratford on October 25.

Against Kolbe, the Hawks won by scores of 25-6, 25-6 and 25-17. Newtown racked up 25 aces from the service line, highlighted by nine each from Annabel Saunders and Grace Miller. Ella Stubbs had a trio of blocks.

NHS defeated Brookfield 25-18, 25-16, 25-14. Zosia Teraszkiewicz logged nine kills and seven digs; Saunders registered six kills; Stubbs had five kills and three blocks; and Emily Daoust had six digs.

Newtown beat Stratford 25-18, 25-15, 25-16. Miller had seven kills; Teraszkiewicz tallied six kills to go along with two aces and four digs; Stubbs again logged a trio of blocks and had three kills; Saunders had three aces and five kills; Gabby Soltis had two aces and a dozen assists to go along with a dig; Haley Austermann had an ace, kill, dig, and 11 assists; and Liz Anesi had two aces, three kills, and a dig.
