State Police Urge Halloween Safety

The Connecticut State Police want Halloween to be a safe time for all children who go out trick or treating this week. Parents can help their children by getting them to follow a few simple rules.

Wear bright light colored costumes that are visible to motorists. Watch out for cars. Carry a flashlight to help you see and be seen. Be sure your mask does not hinder your eyesight. Use caution as you approach a house; be alert for objects or toys on a walkway or porch.

Always go trick or treating in a group –– never alone.

Do not eat any treats until you get home and your parents can inspect all of the treats that you collected. Only collect treats from neighbors or friends.

The state police remind all parents to clear their front walkways of obstacles. Be sure to inspect all candy collected by your children. The state and local police will be out in force on Halloween to help keep the night safe. Motors should drive cautiously and be aware of children who will be running from house to house. If the speed limit is 25 mph, motorists should drive even slower.
