WOW Van Offers Flu Shots
Anyone who missed the two free flu shot clinics in Newtown this month will have an opportunity to get a low-cost flu shot at clinics sponsored by the Danbury Visiting Nurse Association in November.
The Wellness on Wheels (WOW) Van of Danbury Hospital will offer low-cost flu vaccinations on Tuesday, November 4, from 9 am to noon, at the Big Y supermarket, 6 Queen Street., and again on Saturday, November 22, from 9 am to noon, at Big Y.
The flu shot is available to anyone who wants to avoid the flu; especially children 6 to 23 months of age, along with their caregivers; healthy people 50 years of age and older; adults and children with chronic heart and lung disease; anyone living in a nursing home or other care facility; people with chronic conditions such as diabetes, anemia, cancer, immune suppression, HIV, or kidney disease; health care workers and caregivers.
There is an $18 charge for the flu shot and a $28 charge for the pneumonia vaccine. Insurance accepted for the flu vaccine include Medicare Part B, Anthem Blue Cross of Connecticut, and ConnecticutCare. The WOW Vanâs low-cost flu vaccinations are supported by a grant from General Electric, and co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of Danbury-Sunrise and Rotary International Foundation.
