Trinity Episcopal Church again hosted The Great Pumpkin Challenge this year.

The annual Halloween-themed event featured donated, carved pumpkins displayed on scaffolding on the front lawn of the church at 36 Main Street. The display of jack-o-lanterns is a fundraiser for a charity.

The participating public was invited to drop off donated pumpkins earlier this week, culminating on Thursday, October 31 — Halloween.

A $5 donation was requested with each pumpkin. The final collection of carved pumpkins is scheduled for today, from 4 to 6 pm.

All donations will go to The Hole In The Wall Gang Camp, the late Paul Newman’s nonprofit organization that provides “a different kind of healing” to seriously ill children and their families throughout the Northeast, free of charge. Last year’s event at the church raised more than $1,000.

The pumpkins have been collected each afternoon since Sunday. With inclement weather each day this week, the pumpkins have been kept indoors each night, but most appeared back on the scaffolding by Thursday morning. All will be lit in time for Trick or Treaters when they begin visiting the homes and businsesses along Main Street later today.
