Silent Auction & Sisters Of Funk Show Will

Help Construct A New School Playground

The hippest hits from the Seventies and original songs will be combined when Sisterfunk takes the stage in Sandy Hook this weekend for a silent auction, parent party, and benefit concert to help fund a new playground for Middle Gate School.

Sisterfunk is a five-member Woodbridge-based band. Each member of the family band is an accomplished musician of her own right; brought together, the women combine for what they call a “positive and pure vibe.”

Wendy Taylor’s six-string bass playing has taken her from a six-month long USO tour to her current “very funky” original project, Butch & The Penetrators. Vang Durst is an accomplished rhythm and blues guitarist gone funk. In addition to her work with Sisterfunk, Ms Durst has her own solo project and also is an integral part of an eclectic project called Sister Guitar.

Denise Troy works on the keyboards and offers a vocal style rooted in the R&B vein. She is also involved in multiple projects, including Jezebel Moon, Absolute and Alter Ego. Kristina Jean is the sax player for Sisterfunk; she also handles lead vocals and rhythm guitar for Jezebel Moon and Absolute.

Finally, drums for Sisterfunk are handled by Barbou, “the driver of this funky train.”

The fundraiser will be held Saturday, November 4, at Sandy Hook Fire House, on Riverside Road. It will run from 7 to 11 pm. Admission to the party is $25, which includes food and beverages all night long. Proceeds will benefit the fund being built for a new playground at one of Newtown’s elementary schools.

Also being featuring during the party will be a silent auction. Guests will be invited to bid on over $9,000 worth of goods and services donated by local individuals and merchants.

Some tickets will be available at the door, although reservations are being suggested. Call Kathy Gallagher, 426-2797, for details or reservations.
