Girls' Soccer Battles For Title And Volleyball In Semis Tonight

Newtown High School's girls' soccer team will take on Pomperaug of Southbury in the South-West Conference championship game, at neutral site New Milford High, Thursday, November 1, at 7 pm.

The title game was originally scheduled for Friday but bumped up a day because of a rainy forecast.

The State Open cross country championships were also moved up from Friday to Thursday, and will take place at Wickham Park in Manchester on Thursday afternoon; the boys race at 2 pm, followed by the girls at 2:45.

As originally scheduled, the SWC girls' volleyball semifinals will take place Thursday night, with Newtown hosting Brookfield at 6 o'clock.

There is an admission charge for SWC playoff games, as follows:

Quarterfinal and semifinal contests: $8 adults; $5 students & senior citizens; military personnel in uniform free; children under age 6 free when accompanied by an adult.

Finals and championship events: $10 adults; $5 students & senior citizens; military personnel in uniform free; children under age 6 free when accompanied by an adult.
